Volunteer Positions & Descriptions


Asset Management

Volunteers will be unloading and loading trucks with supplies for the rest stops on the ride route and other route support vehicles. This could involve some heavy lifting - 20 to 50 lbs. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and be prepared for weather. Fun, dirty, and very satisfying! Other items to bring: box knife and gloves. Volunteers must be 16 or older.


Bag & Bike Check

Volunteers will be securing participants bags and bikes while they are on course or at the Festival in the Park.  Volunteers will coordinate the check-out process too.


Bike Mechanic-Rest Stops

Bike mechanic experience required.


Bib Labeling

Volunteers will help the registration team to label the bibs for runners/walkers and riders.  Attention to detail is a must!


Breakfast Tent

Volunteers will assist in setting up the breakfast area, slicing fruit and serving it to participants before the event.


Community & Event Information Booth

Volunteers will help assist participants and other volunteers who may be lost or need additional information about the event or community. Volunteers will be given a Venue Map with detailed directions on where specific events, booths, etc. are placed.


Course Marshals:  Ride

Volunteers will be stationed on various corners of the ride course, directing riders through necessary turns and difficult areas of the course. Volunteers must be able to transport oneself to the assigned corner location. Please be prepared for all weather and we also recommend that course marshals bring a chair. This volunteer position has 2 main focuses: one is to provide safety guidance/support to cyclists on route and to give support/backup on all hot spots on the route where additional safety support is needed.


Course Marshals:  Run/Walk

Volunteers will be on various corners of the 2 run/walk courses to provide directions ensuring that all walkers/runners follow the course markings. This volunteer position has 3 main focuses: one is to provide safety guidance/support to the walkers/runners on route, to give support/backup where additional safety support is needed and to encourage/cheer participants.


Donations Desk

Volunteers will assist participants and spectators in taking new donations. This is a highly detailed job that requires a good eye for detail and problem solving skills. Good customer service and computer skills a must.


Festival in the Park – General

Volunteers will unload and set up supplies for the Health and Wellness Festival. Once set up is complete, volunteers will help to staff various booths and other duties will be assigned by the Production Director and Volunteer Coordinator.


Goodie Bag Stuffing

Volunteers will assist in stuffing goodie bags with information and merchandise samples for participants. Volunteers will assist in stuffing participant bags. This is a time sensitive job as last minute registrations and online check-ins need to be accounted for.


KidZone

Volunteers will set up/ assist with kids activities: face painting, arts & crafts, and games.


Lobster Trap

Volunteers will assist with setting up the Lobster Trap participant food area, serving food and drinks, etc.


Merchandise Booth

Volunteers will assist Staff with set-up of The Dempsey Challenge Merchandise booth. Volunteers will be given a short training on the different types of products offered and will be asked to assist in merchandise sales.


New Registration Desk

Volunteers will assist participants with getting registered for the event. This is a highly detailed job that requires a good eye for detail and problem solving skills. Good customer service and computer skills a must.  Should registration close before event day, this position will be moved to another area where volunteers are needed.


Packet Pick-Up

Volunteers will staff the packet pick up area handing out bibs and packets to all participants. This is a highly detailed job that requires a good eye for detail and problem solving skills. Good customer service skills a must. There will be a 30 minute training before the shift begins.


Packet Pick-Up Set-Up

Volunteers will assist staff with set up for packet pick-up.


Parking Marshals

Volunteers will direct participants and volunteers to the designated parking areas around the venue.


Rest Stop Supply Distribution

Assist Rest Stop team with organization and distribution of all rest stop supplies


Signage Sorting and Placement

The volunteer team will help sort all routing and course signage the days prior to the event.  These individuals will work with the Routing and Signs crew to coordinate and place signage based on discipline (run/ride) and to collect signage after the event(s).


Start Line Flow Control/SAG Lineup

Assist with organizing SAG vehicle line-up at the start line along with rider staging and organization in the start corrals.


Vendor Breakdown:  Festival

Volunteers will begin their day by helping with various areas of the Festival in the Park as directed by the Production Director. As the Festival concludes for the day, volunteers will provide general assistance to vendors in taking down their booths and loading supplies.


Vendor Load-in:  Festival

Volunteers will provide general assistance to vendors in unloading supplies and setting up their booths for the Festival in the Park site. Upon completion of vendor load-in, volunteers will help staff various areas of the Festival as directed by the Production Director.


Venue Décor

Volunteers will help place signage, balloons and general decor in strategic locations around the venue with direction from Staff.


Venue Signage-Festival

Volunteers will set-up and maintain signage and decorative banners at the Festival site. Signage will include outdoor directional signs in parking areas as well as banners and directional signage within the Festival site.


Volunteer Check-in

Volunteers will check in new volunteers and then direct them to their assigned area. Check-in volunteers will also fill in for volunteers who may need food or restroom breaks. Check-in volunteers may also be asked to relieve a volunteer if their shift is over and a replacement has not yet arrived.


Water Team: Start/Finish Ride

Volunteers will ensure that all troughs are filled with bottled water and iced down near start/finish. Volunteers will also be asked to hand out bottled water to participants as they cross the finish line.


Water Team:  5/10K Run/Walk

Assist with 5k water stations set-up and tear-down and water hand-outs to participants.
